Earlier this year the RSA hosted a meeting of rink operators, distributors, and manufacturers to discuss the industry and try to come up with some ideas for the RSA to focus on as they try to promote skating. I was honored to be one of the ones that was able to attend and I would like to update our customers on the progress we have made on some of our projects.
The main thing for right now is a series of discount coupons several manufacturers are going to be inserting into skate boxes. Each box will have a coupon for a free admission and also a coupon for 10% off of a birthday party. The first manufacturer to offer the coupons is Sure-Grip, but others will be coming soon. The exposure skating rinks get from this could be huge, as the coupons will eventually be included in skates sold at some of the larger sporting good chains. Hopefully that will encourage people to take their skates to your rinks instead of using them outdoors. Each coupon will clearly state that they are valid at participating RSA rinks only, so you don’t have to accept them, but we would encourage all rinks to consider accepting these coupons.
Another project we’re working on is raising money for a national marketing campaign. The details on this aren’t finalized, nothing is certain yet, but we’re hoping that this plan will start raising money early next year, with advertising from that revenue to start appearing approximately one year later. If this works we believe it could have a huge impact on everyone’s business.
Other projects include:
A two year contract with the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas to host the 2009 and 2010 RSA convention.
Inviting another industry (in the family entertainment industry) to join our national convention to help build a “critical mass” of vendors and attendees.
The RSA is redesigning their websites and also working on a template that rink owners could use to host their own rink websites.

We are wholesale only and are not allowed to sell to skaters or to quote prices. For info on purchasing skates please look in your phone book under "skating rink" or click here.
Always skate smart. Use appropriate protective gear. If you're not an experienced skater then learn to skate indoors at a roller skating rink. It's a flat and smooth surface with no traffic to deal with. Take lessons.
