Updates from the Reno Show

We just got back from the RSA show in Reno and we’re starting the final preparations for our tradeshow here in Roanoke. We’re amazed at the amount of new skate products that are coming out this fall. All of the vendors have been incredibly busy, we’ll try to keep you updated on what’s coming out for the new season.

Sure-Grip has introduced a lot of new skates. Most of these should be available by early October. The Fame is an entry level quad art skate with the Probe plates, ABEC-3 bearings, and Fame wheels. Black sizes 12J-16 and white sizes 12J-11.

Sure-Grip has two new packages called the Gyro with shiny leather boots that resemble a man’s dress shoe. These feature a new aluminum Probe plate with no toe stop, Fo-Mac Premier wheels, and ABEC-3 bearings. The boots have a real shiny patent leather look and come in either a slip-on design or a lace-up. These come in sizes 4-13.

Sure-Grip has a new wheel called the Interceptor. This wheel is very similar to the Power Plus in quality, but they have added two speed grooves on the face of the wheel.

Sure-Grip has three different quad speed shoes for the fall. Each of these three comes as a boot only or as part of a package deal. The boots are called the XL55, XL75, and XL95. On each of these packages you get to pick the wheel color. Here are the details on some of the different packages these boots are used on.

Pacer has also introduced many new skates for the upcoming season. The Magna is an entry level art skate. The Magna 600 goes from size 10J - 3 in black or white with nylon plates. The Magna 700 is the adult version of this skate, with an aluminum plate. It comes in black 4-13 and white 4-11.

The Shifter is the next step up in quad artistic skates. This skate has a leather lined boot, chrome plated Quad-Cruiser plates, and ABEC-3 bearings. It comes in black sizes 4-13 and white sizes 4-11.

The Labeda STS-Pro is a high top package with indoor-outdoor wheels, chrome plated Quad-Cruiser plates, and ABEC-5 bearings. It comes in black sizes 4-13 and white 4-11.

The Labeda Accu Pro is a very bold looking skate. The black boots (size 4-13) have a lot of gold on the side and the white boots (size 4-11) have a lot of silver. Both boots have a fur tongue, the plates have a “Gyro brace-bar”, and the wheels are indoor-outdoor. The bearings are ABEC-9.

The GTX-500 is an entry-level quad speed package that comes in black (sizes 1-12) or white (sizes 1-10). The boots have a velcro power strap, the wheels have a nice speed look to them with a large speed hub, and the reaction to this skate in Reno was very favorable.

Pacer has redesigned the R429 package. The new skate has black Resistor plates and Broadway 62mm chrome hubbed wheels. The bearings are genuine Bevo ABEC-5. Black 1-12, white 1-10.

The Mombo Pro is a quad speed boot with the Labeda name. This is the first quad product with the Labeda name in quite a long time. These skates come with Resistor plates, chrome ABEC-7 bearings, and Labeda Hugger 62mm wheels. Black 4-13, white 4-10. (Note: The Labeda Hugger wheels on this skate and the Labeda Fan Jets on the next skate listed are not the same as the older Labeda wheels with similar names that some of you may remember from years ago.)

The Labeda G-80 is a higher end quad speed skate from Pacer and Labeda. The boots are leather with a custom lace cover. This skate has Resistor plates, ABEC-9 bearings, and Labeda 62mm Fan Jet wheels. Black sizes 4-13. They’re also doing a “limited edition” of this skate with a lot of silver on the boots for an additional fee.

Roller Derby also showed a new line of inline skates at the Reno show. We’re working on getting details for these skates as soon as possible. Once we know more about these we’ll let you know.

Roll-On introduced a new floor coating at the show. It is called Ultra-Clear. This is a new coating that dries absolutely clear, with almost no tint whatsoever.. You really do see the pure wood through this coating, with significantly less tint than any coating we’ve seen. This coating meets all of the EPA rules for all 50 states, it dries in hours, and it is virtually odorless.

Always skate smart. Use appropriate protective gear. If you're not an experienced skater then learn to skate indoors at a roller skating rink. It's a flat and smooth surface with no traffic to deal with. Take lessons.
